Glee 300x167 Five Celebrities Who Hate 'Glee'

Glee may be a huge hit, but it’s also a musical, so it’s inevitable that its loyal fans are offset by some extremely vocal, passionate loathing. It’s especially divisive among the musical community.

I feel pretty much the same way about Glee as I do about Bollywood movies: The big musical numbers are fun to watch, and I don’t care that the plot is usually silly. But some people think Glee is pretty much the end of civilization. Here’s a roundup of a few of its biggest detractors.

Slash: You won’t be seeing the kids cover “Sweet Child O’ Mine” – Guns ‘n Roses guitarist Slash has embargoed the use of their songs by Glee, which he calls “worse than Grease.” Showrunner Ryan Murphy fired back, saying “Usually I find that people who make those comments, their careers are over; they’re uneducated and quite stupid.” Shocking that musicians aren’t lining up to work with that charmer.

Kings Of Leon: Ryan Murphy’s ire was raised yet again when the band Kings Of Leon very publically spurned his request to cover their music on the show. Their Twitter feud made headlines, especially when KOL told the openly gay Murphy to “Buy a new bra.” Kings of Leon may not want to sell out, but they’re no stranger to taking the low road.

Dave Grohl: Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl shares his fellow rock stars’ loathing for Glee, saying,  ”It’s every band’s right, you shouldn’t have to do f***ing Glee. And then the guy who created Glee is so offended that we’re not, like, begging to be on his f***ing show … f*** that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do Glee.” See, Kings Of Leon? That’s how you do rock star entitlement in a classy, non-homophobic way.

Miley Cyrus: Miley was happy to let Glee cover her song “The Climb” – for some reason she didn’t share her colleagues’ concerns about selling out – but she’s not personally a fan. “Honestly, musicals? I just can’t. What if this was real life and I was just walking down the street on Rodeo Drive and all of a sudden I just burst into song about how much I love shoes?” That’s pretty much how I picture you living your life, Miley.

Bret Easton Ellis: The author of American Psycho seems intent on being the latest celeb to start a Twitter feud with Murphy. Last night he tweeted, “I like the idea of “Glee” but why is it that every time I watch an episode I feel like I’ve stepped into a puddle of HIV?” Takes one to know one, you toxic jerk. Ryan Murphy is a blowhard, but if he rises to the bait I’ll be siding with him on this one. Bret Easton Ellis is the worst.
