Fox will follow the strategy it launched with megahit Glee and premiere two of its shows from the 2011 season in May.
Prehistoric time-travel drama Terra Nova will premiere on May 23 and 24 before launching for real in the fall, which should give viewers just enough time to wrap around a show set in the distant past where the characters are from the future. Given the expense of its pilot – and the fact that it’s helmed by Steven Spielberg – it’s no surprise that this one is getting a big splashy debut, but will audiences connect with the over-the-top weirdness of the premise? Hey, it worked for Glee.
The other show is an as-yet-untitled Jamie Foxx Sketch Comedy Show. I’m tentatively excited about this one – I love sketch comedy, and it’s been ages since there was a decent network sketch show outside of Saturday Night Live. Of course, it could turn out to be totally execrable. But let’s just hope we’ll get the next Mr. Show and not the next MAD TV.
