Kickin' It Old Skool

Posted on December 16th, 2010 by Mary Beth Ellis

If there’s any good way to celebrate the full entrance into the new decade, there’s only one way to do it:  With the New Kids on the Block.  And the Backstreet Boys!

If you didn’t think that Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2011 (yes, that is the Official Title) was depressing enough, let’s add a little bit of YOU’R'E OLD to the mix.  Oh, and even better?  They have a new acronym:  NKOTBSB.  It’s a mashup, see?  Show starts at 10 PM EST on ABC (DISH 245.)

Here’s the happy news– this truly brings together the leading and trailing edges of Generation X, all of which is now deemed Clark- worthy.  And here’s a big bit of awesome from the press release:

“The NKOTBSB just keeps snowballing … and nothing is as exciting as Times Square’s New Year’s countdown,” the Backstreet Boys said Thursday.

“The excitement of this is just a glimpse of what our upcoming tour will be,” the five members of New Kids on the Block added.

All five members added, no less.

I’m not really sure how I personally feel about this, to tell you the truth.  On one hand:  Ain’t no such thing as too much New Kids, except for maybe the cartoon.  (You remember the cartoon?  I do.  My loss.)  On the other:  The Backstreet Boys flavor addition could well dilute the individual brands if this keeps up.  The two bands have been touring together, and could well become just one big blob of ’90′s boybandom.

Then again… sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.
