Each is unique, and never to be repeated. We review obscure gems of TV shows that aired for one season (at most) before getting canceled.
While discussing the previously saluted Cavemen here on The Side Dish, we lauded its particular ability to melt off the screen before playing out its first season. Shielded from critics during the usual preview period, it never made it past its first sweeps.
A&E (DISH 118) sees those two months, and raises it by a Hasselhoff.
It’s tough to be The Hoff these days. So very easy to–yes–hassle him. Not only was he one and done on the most recent season of Dancing With the Stars, his greatly anticipated reality show (and by “anticipated,” I mean “by pretty much nobody”), The Hasselhoffs, surfaced and disappeared last month without so much as as a mid- season cliffhanger.
I fail to see how this could be any worse than The Hogans, but alas, we won’t have the opportunity to draw a full scholar’s comparison. When your big debut rates #85 on a cable network? Yeah, you’re done.
To be fair, The Hoff did make it past the one- episode threshold; the premiere was followed by Episode #2. Which came in at #131 on A&E. And then it vanished from A&E’s December schedule, never to be seen again.
So far, that is. Rumors are swirling that The Hoff might have conflict of interest issues; it’s been reported that he might replace Simon Cowell on Britain’s Got Talent. Which is… almost worse news for Western Civilization, I’d say.
